The South African tour of India in 2019 began with a washed-out opening T20I series in Dharamshala last month. While the hosts won the second game, the Proteas came back strongly in the third game in Bengaluru to level the three-match series 1-1. After facing the Indian Board President XI in a three-day practise game at the Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram, the action has now shifted towards the longest format of the game. The Test match, which started earlier on Wednesday, is the first of the three-match Freedom Trophy series between the two nations.

Day 1 report
Team India ended Day 1 on a commanding position with 202-0 in 59 overs. In the form of Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, a new opening combination was tried by the team management. Both batsmen are currently unbeaten on 115 and 84 respectively and will be looking to post a huge first inning total when the play resumes on Thursday. Rohit’s 115 is his fourth Test century and his first in almost two years.
Weather in Vishakhapatnam
Almost 31 overs were lost in the day due to continuous rains post tea break on a batting-friendly VDCA pitch. The two Indian batsmen went into lunch at 91-0 in 30 overs before bad light called out an early tea break. No further play was possible beyond Tea as the rains played spoilsport on a perfect start for the home side. The weather forecast in Vishakhapatnam suggests that the rains could interrupt Day 2 proceedings as well. Apart from Thursday's forecast, the weather report for the remaining three days does not look bright either as there is a chance of heavy rains till weekend in the city. Due to the loss of 31 overs on Wednesday, Day 2 will commence early on Thursday with a 9:20 AM local start.
