Kapil Dev, the 1983 World Cup winning captain, has lauded the current Indian fast bowling line-up for changing the face of the country's cricketing landscape. He has also talked about the reasons behind the success of Indian bowlers and tremendous abundance of talent in the main Indian team. These comments come after India have dominated South Africa in their ongoing Test series so far. Let us take a look at what the former all-rounder said.
'Fast bowlers have changed the face of Indian cricket'
Kapil added in a recent interview with a leading daily that in order to develop a pace attack, a team needs time. Tournaments like the Indian Premier League have allowed selectors to come across talented pace bowlers much quicker than before. The current Indian bowling lineup consists of bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav among others. Dev believes that the ICC bowler rankings did not matter as long as the bowlers performed in a way that helped their team win matches. He says that India have a fantastic bench strength which was very evident in the way with which the hosts beat South Africa in the first Test at Vishakhapatnam despite no Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya in the side, who are missing out due to injuries. In their absence, other players stood up and took more responsibility on their shoulders.

Last week, India beat South Africa by 203 runs. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami helped the home side pull off a stunning victory by taking five wickets in the second innings. Shami only conceded 35 runs in the 10.5 overs he bowled at an economy rate of 3.23. He bowled two maidens in what was a spectacular spell.
