IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma becomes fastest player in cricketing history to script unique feat

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma completed his 10,000 ODI runs in the India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 Super 4s match and became the sixth Indian batter to achieve the feat. Sharma played an innings of 53 runs off 48 balls and added 80 runs off 67 balls along with opener Shubman Gill. Rohit is also playing his 50th ODI match against Sri Lanka.

Rohit Sharma achieves a distinctive record in the IND vs SL match

Apart from completing 10,000 ODI runs, Rohit Sharma also became the fastest opener to reach 8,000 runs in ODI cricket. Rohit surpassed South Africa's Hashim Amla and reached the milestone in 160 innings. Before Rohit Sharma. Former Indian captains Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar were the only Indian openers to score over 8,000 ODI runs. However, Rohit is the fastest to achieve the record. Rohit Sharma went passed Pakistani great Shahid Afridi and now has the most sixes in the Asia Cup.

Wellalage-Asalanka put Sri Lanka on top against India 

The Indian cricket team got off to a solid start against Sri Lanka and openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 80 runs for the first. The Indian team was on the path to registering another high score on the second consecutive day, but Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka had different plans. Both the spinners destroyed the Indian batting lineup and got out big names like Rohit, Gill, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul.

However, even a loss against Sri Lanka will not affect Team India's comfortable situation in the Asia Cup as they have a pretty healthy Net Run Rate. Though, Pakistan will want India to beat Sri Lanka, as the winner of the match will head straight into the finals of the tournament. If Sri Lanka wins against India, Pakistan will have no choice instead to beat the Lankan lions.
