Former Cricketer Lambasts Rohit Sharma-led Team India After They Reach Historic New Low

Former Cricketer Basit Ali expressed his concerns over Team India after they lost the Test series to New Zealand, who took up a 2-0 lead. He claimed that the Men in Blue's batting were exposed and were unable to play either spin or pace. He added that the team and management were overconfident after the Bangladesh Test series win, while New Zealand had come up with a place despite having nothing to lose.

"I had said chasing 350-plus will be too difficult. There had to be ton from one of the top three batters. India's batting got exposed. In the first match, Kiwi pacers took 17 wickets. In the second Test, spinners took 19 wickets. India players were neither able to play pacers well nor spinners. On a track that had pace and bounce (Bengaluru), India lost and on a spinning track, India lost as well.

"The match India won against Bangladesh in two days and New Zealand's 2-0 defeat in Sri Lanka, the team might have thought they would beat the Kiwis easily. This means Indian management and Indian players were overconfident. New Zealand did their homework. They had nothing to lose. No one would have thought that the Kiwis might be able to defeat India. Even New Zealand themselves wouldn't have thought of something like this. But they did their homework," Basit Ali said.

Basit Ali went on to speak on the India Squad for the Australia series, where he said that the team would face issues because of the absence of Mohammed Shami from the squad. Additionally, he believed that left-arm pacer Arshdeep ought to have replaced Shami in the pace lineup.

Shami has a chance of making the squad, just as Washington Sundar was called up for the second test in Pune. But it remains to be seen whether team management would decide to call him up in Australia.
