India declared their first innings after posting a mammoth total of 601 runs with skipper Virat Kohli leading the charge with a blistering knock of 254 runs along with Ravindra Jadeja who scored 91 runs on Day two in Pune. After losing Ajinkya Rahane in the first session of the day, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja stitched together a partnership of 200 plus runs, with the skipper himself going on to hit a hundred followed by a double hundred. Virat Kohli toppled yet another record as he registered his seventh double hundred in Tests and went past Sachin Tendulkar's high score of 248 runs. The Indian skipper decided to declare the innings after the fall of Ravindra Jadeja's wicket, putting an end to the misery and brunt faced by South Africa's bowlers.
Virat Kohli scores 250, goes past Tendulkar
Resuming his innings on Day two, skipper Virat Kohli played a magnificent knock en route to 250 runs and received good support from Ravindra Jadeja on the other end. Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 59 runs following which the Indian skipper stepped on the accelerator and quickly went from scoring a 100 to a 200 and finally a 250. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja narrowly missed out on his century by just nine runs as he fell prey to South Africa's Senuran Muthuswamy. Skipper Virat Kohli was hailed as a selfless skipper by the fans for declaring the innings at the fall of Jadeja's wicket instead of pursuing his maiden score of 300 runs as there were still 18 overs left for the day. Virat Kohli's latest knocks takes his Test tally to 7054 runs, averaging 55.11 with seven double-hundreds to his name. Virat Kohli also broke Australian legend Don Bradman's record of scoring the most number of 150-run knocks as a captain as he registered the ninth 150-run score of his career as opposed to Bradman's eight.
