India Likely To Field Two New Skippers During Sri Lanka Tour, Virat And Rohit To Rest: Reports
Gautam Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team India on July 9, 2024. He starts his tenure with India's away series in Sri Lanka
Team India is in a phase of transition with new leaders being appointed and the old ones signing off. After India won the T20 World Cup on June 29, 2024, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from the shortest international format. Rahul Dravid's tenure as the India Head Coach has also come to a close and he has now been succeeded by former India player Gautam Gambhir. India will travel to Sri Lanka for an ODI and T20I series later in July which will be Gambhir's first stint.
Hardik Pandya And KL Rahul Might Lead Team India
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been playing cricket for the past four months which includes the series against Afghanistan, the IPL and the T20 World Cup. Considering their workload, reports claim that the BCCI has decided to give them a break for the upcoming Sri Lanka series considering that India have a jampacked schedule of Test matches. It is further being reported that the BCCI might hand over the T20I leadership duties to Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul will lead the side in ODIs.
Rohit Sharma, certainly is at the fag end of his career and the Indian cricket team has to ensure that the next generation gets ample amount of opportunities considering the fact that there are 5 ICC events to be played in the next 3 years. 'Hardik Pandya is all set to lead the Indian team in the T20I, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement. Hardik is unlikely to be rested for the upcoming series vs Sri Lanka ', said a BCCI source as quoted by ANI.

The Gautam Gambhir Era Starts
Former India player Gautam Gambhir has taken over from Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team. Dravid's tenure as the Team India Head Coach ended after India played the finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Dravid who served as Team India's coach for almost three years finally delivered an ICC title before walking away. Gautam Gambhir's first assignment will be India's tour to Sri Lanka which starts later in July 2024
