Steve Smith dropped Ravindra Jadeja in the final over of Day 2. India closed the day on 321/7 in 114 overs, with Jadeja not out on 66 runs and Axar unbeaten on 52 runs.

The India batsmen added seven runs to their total in the 112th over, which also included a four. India's score now stands at 321/7. Jadeja and Patel are batting on 66 and 52 runs respectively.

Axar Patel took 94 balls to complete his half-century in the 2nd innings of the match. This is his 2nd Test fifty and fifth overall in international cricket. 

India took their score to 311 runs at the loss of seven wickets after 108 overs. India now leads Australia by 134 runs with six overs remaining before stumps on Day 2. Axar Patel needs two more runs to reach a half-century.

Axar Patel is now also nearing a fifty after Jadeja after he hit a full toss from Marnus Labuschagne for a four. 

Marnus Labuschagne is now in to the attack as India are 301/7 in 104 overs.

The umpires took a bizarre drinks break at the end of the 99th over, after Ravindra Jadeja walked back to the dugout. The batter came back to the field after a few minutes.

Ravindra Jadeja hit a boundary to conclude the 98th over, taking India's total to 277/7. Jadeja is batting on 57 runs off 130 balls, while Axar Patel has scored 17 runs in 46 balls.

Axar Patel completed the 95th over with a boundary off the last ball. India's score is 265/7 in 95 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja took a single in the 93rd over to complete his half-century in 113 balls. He earlier took a fifer in the first innings.

On completion of 90 overs in India's first batting innings, the score stood at 250/7.

India's score after 87 overs of play in their first batting innings reached 249/7, with Jadeja batting on 45 runs off 98 balls.

Debutant Todd Murphy completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Srikar Bharat. Bharat hit eight runs of 10 balls on his Test debut for India. India is now 242/7 in 84 overs. Meanwhile, Jadeja is unbeaten on 38 runs off 88 balls.

Coming in to bat at no. 8, Srikar Bharat took a double to score his first Test runs, before hitting a boundary to Aussie debutant Todd Murphy. India's score stands at 236/6 in 82 overs.

Rohit Sharma was bowled out on the individual score of 120 runs in 212 balls by Pat Cummins in the 81st over of the match.

Virat Kohli looks like he is going to attack the bowlers from ball one, as he hits a powerful drive to Nathan Lyon down the ground. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue to add runs to India's tally, as the score stood at 151 runs at the loss of three wickets at lunch on Day 2. India is now just 26 runs behind Australia's first innings score.

Virat Kohli has scored five runs off 11 balls after joining Rohit Sharma in the middle. The skipper is batting in his 80s.

Cheteshwar Pujara became debutant Todd Murphy's third scalp of the innings, after the 22-year-old removed KL Rahul and R Ashwin. India is now 135/3 in 44.1 overs.

Sharma first survived an appeal for an inside edge catch in the 2nd ball of the 42nd over, before being cleared of lbw as well. He then hit a four to finish the over with India at 134/2. Roiht crossed the 80-run mark and is currently on the individual score of 81 runs in 118 balls.

After Ashwin's dismissal, Cheteshwar Pujara walked out to the middle in the 41st over and got off the mark in the very first ball he faced. He then hit a stylish boundary in the off side, as India's score reached 124/2 in 41 over.

Australia went upstairs with the DRS review for an lbw appeal against R Ashwin, off the bowling of debutant Todd Murphy The third umpire found the ball to be hitting the wickets, and overturned the on-field umpire's call. Ashwin was dismissed on the individual score of 23 runs in 62 balls, including two fours and a six.

The Indian pair has looked strong against the Aussie bowlers so far in the day, despite a few close calls. Australia tightened the grip in the last four overs, adding just 6 runs to their total.

Rohit Sharma survived an lbw appeal in the 34th over, bowled by Scott Boland. The Indian skipper is now batting on 68 off 91 balls, while Ashwin's tally is at 21 runs in 43 balls.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma now looks to attack as he takes on Aussie captain Pat Cummins and hits him for a six.

If Rohit Sharma scores a century on Day 2, he will become the only cricketer to score centuries both as a player and a captain in all three formats of the game.

The 35-year-old India captain Rohit Sharma is 44 runs away from achieving his maiden century against Australia. He is currently batting on 56*, which is his 4th half-century against the Aussies. He has hit a total of eight centuries in his Test career so far.

Day 2's play in the IND vs AUS 1st Test match in Nagpur is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM IST on Friday.

Day 1 of the Test belonged to India as they first bowled out the strong Australian lineup on the score of 177 runs in the first innings. While the first session on Day 1 saw the Indian pacers removing the Aussie openers, Jadeja completed his fifer in the post-lunch session. R Ashwin's tally of three wickets also helped India cause, as he also went on to become the second fastest bowler to 150 Test wickets.

In the second innings, India were off to a good start with captain Rohit Sharma taking the attack, before KL Rahul's dismissal towards the end of the day. However, Rohit had already completed his half-century by then and was joined at the middle by night watchman R Ashwin. India will look to continue to bat well on Day 2 of the match, which is expected to feature more spin at the Nagpur pitch.
