'India, we are coming again': Afghanistan all set to play 3 T20Is against 'Men in Blue' in January

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that their men's T20I team will travel to India in January for a three-match series. The official Twitter handle of the ACB shared the itinerary for the encounter, which is slated to kick start on January 11 in Mohali, Punjab. 

“India, we are coming again. AfghanAtalan are all set to meet Team India in a three-match T20I series in early January next year,” the tweet read.

Afghanistan's star players such as Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Noor Ahmad are expected to feature in the T20I series against India. These are the same Afghan players who feature in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) for various franchises. They enjoy a huge following in India and will be grateful for the opportunity to play against a team like India on Indian soil. 

Rashid Khan is the captain of Afghanistan's T20I team and will most likely lead the side in India. Interestingly, the series has been announced following Afghanistan's brilliant performance at the ODI World Cup 2023, which was held in India. Afghanistan defeated three former world champions England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka to register their best-ever performance in the history of the competition.

This is the second time India and Afghanistan will lock horns against each other in a bilateral cricket series. Note, that Afghanistan played their first-ever Test match against India back in 2018, which was the only bilateral encounter between the two nations in the history of the sport.
