IPL 2025 Auction: Sunil Gavaskar Reckons Shreyas Iyer May Get Bid From DC if KKR Don't

With less than a week to go for the IPL 2025 mega auction, speculations are rife over former KKR captain Shreyas Iyer. Despite having led the Kolkata Knight Riders side to the title, he was released by the franchise. While some think KKR may bid for him again at the auction, former India opener Sunil Gavaskar reckons even if KKR don't, Delhi Capitals will.
'If KKR don't bid, I feel Delhi will'
"When KKR won last year (IPL 2024), Shreyas Iyer was the captain. As I said earlier for Rishabh Pant as well, at times, there could be a disagreement on the fees. However, I also feel once Shreyas Iyer comes into the auction, KKR might also bid for his services. If KKR don't bid, I feel Delhi will do that," the former India captain said on Star Sports.
The former India opener also reckons that there will be a toss-up in the Capitals' management mind about getting Iyer in the auction or bringing their last season's skipper Rishabh Pant back via RTM card.
‘Delhi will want him (Iyer)’
"Delhi will want him because they will also need to find a captain if Rishabh Pant isn't in their team. So I feel Delhi will definitely try to use the RTM card or bring Rishabh Pant back into their team at the auction," he said.
Iyer With KKR
Iyer led the KKR side brilliantly, taking key decisions and hence it was a surprise to see the franchise release him. It would be interesting to see if Iyer draws a bid from KKR or not at the auction.
