The Indian Premier League which has continued to enhance the level of cricket for the last 17 years, isn't slowing down on its objective and only getting stronger and stronger. The size of the IPL in 2024 was 74 matches and in the upcoming year, the number could grow by almost 15%.

More Number of Matches in IPL 2025
According to reports, IPL 2025 is expected to feature 84 matches, 10 more than the current number. However, reports also state that BCCI hasn't locked in with the number and is yet to contemplate and take a final call on it.
The IPL, which came into existence in 2008, had 59 matches in the inaugural edition, and since then its trajectory has gone only one way. The tournament now inhibits 10 teams and hence the number of matches ought to increase.
As per the current structure, the teams are divided into groups and based on a systematic procedure fixtures are set up. However, the biggest anomaly fans complain about the current structure is that some teams take on each other twice in the group stage, whereas some lock horns only once. The increase in the number of matches may fill out this blank.
What More is There to be Dwelled Upon?
Aside from increasing the number of matches, one more subject that has remained a burning one is the "Impact Player Rule." From players to franchise owners to several knowers of the game, all have come together to oppose the rule unanimously. As per popular belief, the rule is unfair to the all-rounders as it gives teams the provision to send a proper batsman or a bowler in case the need arises. Thus, it is also a topic of contention and in the days to come may make bigger waves.
