Will Be Looking For His Leadership Again: Did RCB Just Confirm Virat Kohli Will Captain In IPL 2025?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has retained Virat Kohli for a staggering sum of Rs. 21 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. This move has sparked speculation that Kohli might be reinstated as captain, a role he held for 9 years before stepping down in 2021. With Faf du Plessis, the previous captain, being released by the franchise, the possibility of Kohli leading RCB again seems likely.

Virat Kohli to captain RCB again? RCB coach's big comment

After the retentions for the IPL 2025 were revealed on Thursday, RCB's head coach Andy Flower has issued a statement on Virat Kohli. Flower has said that Kohli was one of the “leaders” who helped the side reach the playoffs in IPL 2024 and is looking forward to his leadership again in 2025.

“Virat Kohli was one of the leaders that propelled us into the playoffs in 2024. We will be looking for his leadership again coming into 2025,” Flower said.     

Virat Kohli's retention as a first choice, coupled with his experience and leadership skills, makes him a prime candidate for the captaincy role. RCB's remaining purse of Rs. 83 crore will be utilized in the upcoming auction to strengthen their squad.

The other two retained players, Rajat Patidar (Rs. 11 crore) and Yash Dayal (Rs. 5 crore), will likely play important roles in supporting Virat Kohli, if he indeed takes on the captaincy mantle.
