As Mohammad Shami engages himself in domestic cricket, fans are eagerly waiting for the pace bowler's return to International cricket. Amid the anticipation of Shami's return, the IPL auction is coming up, and the pacer is listed to go up for bids. Before the IPL buzz takes over, a former cricketer has spoken out on Shami's value in the cash-rick league, claiming that his price tag may substantially reduce.

Retired India Star Delivers Bold Perspective on Mohammed Shami's Worth in IPL Auction

During an appearance on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar laid a huge claim upon Mohammad Shami's value ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Shami was let go by the Gujarat Titans during the retentions and he is among the top pace bowler prospects in the pool of players. The former India star claimed that given the pace bowler's history with injuries, several IPL franchises could be skeptical of bringing him in and spending out a huge chunk of their purse value.

"There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history — and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover — there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag," Sanjay Manjrekar said.

Mohammad Shami remained out of action for quite a while and is yet to make a national comeback. He missed out on a spot in the Border Gavaskar Trophy after he picked up a knee injury and could not heal up in time. But the pace bowler has made a successful return to domestic cricket, and he made a mark in the Ranji Trophy. The speedster picked up seven tickets throughout the match against Madhya Pradesh. Shami looked in good form throughout the play, and he has also been selected for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he will compete for Bengal.

All eyes will remain over Shami and the franchises are expected to engage in a bidding war for the star Indian pacer bowler. Where will the pace bowler head next in the IPL 2025 is yet to be seen.
