Wasim Jaffer does not fancy the IPL Impact Player' rule

Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer remarked on Sunday that the 'Impact Player' rule should be removed from the Indian Premier League (IPL) because it discourages all-rounders from bowling. Wasim took to 'X' to express his displeasure with how the 'impact player' regulation has stifled bowling and the overall development of all-rounders.

“I think IPL needs to take away the impact player rule, as it's not encouraging the all-rounders to bowl much and lack of ARs and batters not bowling is a major area of concern for Indian cricket. Thoughts?” Jaffer tweeted.

What is the Impact Player rule?

According to the impact player rule, any franchise may substitute a member of the playing eleven from any of the five substitutes selected alongside the starting eleven during the toss. This was done to provide teams with more depth in their batting and bowling lineups.
