With the IPL Mega Auction approaching, franchises will be focused on developing their franchises and making the most of their respective budgets. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will receive much attention this year due to their large purse. The franchise would need to find a new skipper after losing Faf du Plessis during the retentions. Former India star Robin Uthappa has proposed an unexpected candidate for the captaincy race.

Robin Uthappa Puts Forth A Surprising Name For RCB Captaincy Role

During an appearance on JioCinema, Robin Uthappa spoke out on who could lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and he puts in Rajat Patidar as a possible contender for the team's skipper. Despite having the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and more, the former India star wants the RCB management to try their hands on Patidar and build a skipper this time.

"I think they should look at Rajat Patidar to take over that role because it seems like you need a new leader after two years. So, you might as well do it now to get ahead of the curve and build a captain for the next three to five years. Rajat is one of those players who can actually play that role for them," Robin Uthappa said.

This year, the RCB have a loaded purse ahead of the mega auction after they kept just three players in their core. Virat Kohli , Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal were among the ones who were retained by the side and have maintained a purse of ₹83 crore this year. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru would aim for an overhaul to build their squad and make it to a title-winning side. While their decision to let go of their top stars like Mohammed Siraj, Will Jacks and more could be a matter of dispute among the fans, the franchise has the RTM card which they could make use of and bring back some of their released cricketers. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are yet to win an IPL title, and they need to strategize well to develop the side.
