'Rohit Sharma is a question mark in T20 cricket': Sanjay Manjrekar makes controversial remark

A new era is set to kickstart at Mumbai Indians as Hardik Pandya has been handed the mantle to lead the IPL franchise. This is the first time since 2013 a separate captain will conduct the operations for the five time IPL champions. Hardik joined Mumbai from Gujarat Titans during the trade window recently.

Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians' captain

The franchise received severe backlash for their decision to remove Rohit from the leadership role. The franchise already cleared the air on Rohit's role as they have reiterated the fact that Rohit continues to be a vital member of the squad in the upcoming season of the cash rich league. Rohit hasn't delivered consistently in the IPL in the last few campaigns but his credibility as a captain is beyond any doubt.

He single handedly provided the bedrock of success for Mumbai and has been a vocal force in the dressing room. Former Indian cricketer and eminent commentator Sanjay Manjrekar however thinks otherwise.

Sanjay Manjrekar raises doubt on Rohit Sharma's ability

He raised questions over Rohit's ability to put up big scores on the board in the shortest format. During India's second ODI against SOuth Africa he said on Disney+Hotstar, “Ishan Kishan, from couple of seasons before MI paid the big bucks… he is in the same kind of form. Tim David is still trying to fill the shoes of Kieron Pollard. On form, one player that you can maybe depend on, the player who you can expect to come good, is Suryakumar Yadav.
“Rohit Sharma, for me, as a batter, is a question mark in T20 cricket. has shown promise, the way he played in the fifty -over World Cups. But that's a completely different format, when you know you have fifty overs. They bat in that fashion. Bowlers just bowl differently in 50 overs as well."

Mumbai last lifted the IPL title back in 2020 in the United Arab Emirates.
