Ishant Sharma has surpassed Kapil Dev's record for the most number of wickets by an Indian fast bowler outside Asia. On the overall list, he's second among Indians with 156 wickets, behind spinner Anil Kumble. Sharma surpassed Kapil Dev when he took the wicket of Jahmar Hamilton in the first innings of the second test match between India and West Indies. India is in a strong position to win the second test match as well, having beaten the home side by 318 runs in the first test match.

Kumble remains ahead

Anil Kumble has 200 wickets in 50 matches for India outside of Asia, making him the highest bowler overall on the list while Sharma is now second but stands tall among fast-bowlers with 156 wickets in 46 matches. Sharma dispatched Hamilton for 5 runs as India bowled West Indies out for 117 in the first innings while they were chasing 416 runs, taking a 299 run lead and declaring at 168, setting the home side a target of 468 runs to win the match and level the series. Not only did Ishant Sharma make headlines with the ball, but also with the bat as he scored 57 runs to help India cross the 400 run mark. It was Sharma's maiden test fifty and it came at a vital time since it helped India build a 112 run partnership with Hanuma Vihari, who himself scored 111 runs. India's score was 302 for 7 when Ishant came in to bat.

A series sweep by India

If India does win the second match, they'll not only win the test series but will clean sweep the entire series after winning all three T20Is, two of the three ODIs (the first ODI was washed out) and having won the first test, they're well on the way to sweep all three. In the first test match played at North Sound, India beat West Indies by 318 runs. Ishant Sharma, who has hit off right from the start, took five wickets in the first innings, conceding just 43 runs in 17 overs. In the second innings, it was Jasprit Bumrah, who once again awed fans while his critics ate their words since he took 5 wickets, conceding 7 runs in 8 overs thus having an economy of 0.87. Mathematically, he conceded less than a run per over for those 48 balls!
