Jasprit Bumrah's swollen eye becomes a talking point, coach Jayawardene clarifies

Jasprit Bumrah, the premier fast bowler of the Mumbai Indians has been setting the pulse-rates of Indian Cricket fans racing these last couple of weeks. He had injured his shoulder during Mumbai's season opener against Delhi Capitals. However, he was able to recover just in time and had also bowled against RCB where he scalped skipper Virat Kohli and also succeeded in keeping AB de Villiers on his toes.

Just when everything looked fine, the Indian speedster once again stunned one and all during Mumbai's home clash against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. He had a swollen eye when he came out to the bowl in the second innings which left everyone stunned as well as curious to know about the real reason behind this. The commentators enquired about Bumrah with Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene who was watching his team's performance from the sidelines.

At the same time, one of the commentators jokingly asked whether Jayawardene had punched Bumrah. The former Sri Lankan skipper first smiled before saying that Bumrah might have either had a night out or got into a brawl. The former stylish batsman then admitted that he was kidding and that Bumrah had hurt himself during a practice session where he missed to grab a straight ball. He also mentioned that the swelling was quite big a day before the game and that the 25-year old was lucky to get away from a major injury. He also added that Bumrah was also able to get the swelling down before the game.

Bumrah has had an impressive season so far. He has picked up four wickets in four matches at an average of 27.50 with an economy of 7.02. His best performance in this season was against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He picked up the crucial wicket of skipper Virat Kohli just when he and AB de Villiers were taking the game away from Mumbai and bought his team back into the contest. The three-time champions eventually went on to win that thrilling encounter by six runs.
