Till about a month back, former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes was in the reckoning to become India's next fielding coach. Reports had suggested he had the backing of India head coach Gautam Gambhir as well. Yet, Rhodes was not selected by the Indian board to become the fielding coaching something that is now baffling him. During a podcast on Aleena Dissects YouTube channel, Rhodes came up with a hilarious response. Claiming that he is very Indian and has a lot of knowhow, Rhods also spoke a little in Hindi.
‘Mera Naam Jonty Rhodes’
“Yeah! Can you believe it? I mean, they didn't want an international coach, and I'm so local. I mean, mera naam Jonty Rhodes! (I'm Jonty Rhodes) Come on. I'm based in Goa . Maybe because I'm based in Goa . Maybe I need to be in a metro (city),” the South African said during a podcast on Aleena Dissects YouTube channel.
Rhodes also admitted that he was impressed with the standards India have set in being an athletic side.
“I've taken my hats off to the last two Indian fielding coaches. And it comes from captaincy. Under Dhoni… he had a lot of senior guys, and he just showed his physical ability, he still does at the end of his IPL career. Running between the wickets.... amazing, and he's 40. It's incredible. He certainly showed, just through his example, the importance of fitness and strength,” said Rhodes.
Meanwhile, the Indian team reached Chennai for their upcoming assignment that is a couple of Tests against Bangladesh . Gautam Gambhir , who has recently become the head coach of the side, has already taken charge and is with the team in Chennai.
