Can India Still Qualify For The WTC Final Following Crushing Defeat To NZ In Third Test In Mumbai?

As India lose the third test against New Zealand, here is what Team India needs to do to still qualify for the World Test Championship final.

India have suffered the unthinkable as the India Cricket Team have been whitewashed in a home test series for the first time since 2000. Everything has seemed to go wrong for India in this test series against New Zealand. India suffered a shocking loss in the first test against New Zealand have India got all out in the first innings for a horribly low score of 46. It was followed up by a defeat in the second test and India's chances for reaching the WTC final were severely affected. 

As India headed into the third and final test of the series, they needed four wins in the remaining six test matches that are left in India's test calendar. As India lose the third test match, the question remains what does India need to do now to qualify for the WTC final. 

What Does India Need To Do To Qualify For WTC Final Following Defeat In Third Test? 

After India's loss in the third test against New Zealand at home, the scenario for India to qualify for the World Test Championship final remains the same. They need to win 4 matches in all of their remaining matches to qualify for the World Test Championship final.

As India lose to New Zealand at home, the road to the WTC final is tougher than ever. India now have 5 matches remaining and they are all a part of the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia. India will play a 5 match test series in Australia and need four wins out of the five matches to book a place in the finals.

Incase India had won against New Zealand, they would have needed to win three matches out of five to go to the WTC finals.

  • Second Test vs Australia- Adelaide- 6th December 2024 
  • Third Test vs Australia- Brisbane- 14th December 2024 
  • Fourth Test vs Australia- Melbourne- 26th December 2024 
  • Fifth Test vs Australia- Sydney- 3rd January 2025
