New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson was on top of his game last night against Sri Lanka as he took a marvelous hattrick to help New Zealand defend a low total against Sri Lanka in the second T20I to draw the series 1-1. New Zealand batted first against the island nation of Sri Lanka and were only able to put up 108 runs on the board, an extremely low total considering the modern standards of T20 cricket. Sri Lanka however failed to capitalize on New Zealand's low score and got all out for 103 handing the win to New Zealand and also giving up on their chance to win the two match T20I series.
Lockie Ferguson Helps Kiwis Defend Lowest Total Ever
As the Kiwis were all out for 108, Sri Lanka had a target of 109 ahead of themselves. Considering the match was being played on Sri Lankan soil, it seemed easy enough work but that was not the case as Lockie Ferguson proved to be the difference maker and helped New Zealand win the match by 5 runs.
Lockie Ferguson's incredible hattrick was spread throughout two overs as he first plucked up the wicket of Kusal Perera in the last ball of the powerplay. He picked up Perera as he threw a quick yorker to get him on the outside edge.
In the next over he bowled, he got Kamindu Mendis out with an LBW and in the following ball Charith Asalanka was caught behind by the wicketkeeper.
Lockie Ferguson finished the match with incredible figures of 3/7 in 4 overs.
New Zealand will now be playing a three match ODI series against Sri Lanka which will begin on 13th November.
