Gill sustained a thumb injury while fielding during a match simulation at the WACA Ground while he was fielding in the slips, as per reports. The star-opening batter sustained a thumb fracture, which is expected to put him on the bench for the opening Test match at Perth's Optus Stadium. Gill, one of India's young heroes from the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph, is a batting mainstay, and if skipper Rohit Sharma withdraws from the first Test, India's top-order could be severely weakened.According to a BCCI source, Gill has fractured his left thumb, and with less than a week until the start of the Test, the stylish right-hander will struggle to recover in time for the first test match in Perth, Australia. A thumb fracture typically takes 14 days to heal, after which one can resume regular net sessions. Since the second Test in Adelaide begins on December 6, he may be able to recover in time for that match.
