Gautam Gambhir will be Team India's following head coach. After India's tour of Zimbabwe ends, Gambhir will take over. Announced on July 9, Gambhir's first assignment as the new coach will be the series against Sri Lanka. With the Indian cricket squad, which lately raised the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 under Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir is expected to gaze triumph.

Shahid Afridi made a huge statement on Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as India’s head coach 

India has assigned Gautam Gambhir to lead the senior men's cricket team. Gambhir's term will start during India's visit of Sri Lanka. Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi voiced his hope over Gambhir's selection, pointing out that it would be interesting to see how he uses this chance. Afridi underlined that Gambhir has a wonderful opportunity to leave a major influence and complimented him for his direct attitude.

The official head coach of the Indian cricket team Gautam Gambhir takes charge on Wednesday. The former opener replaces Rahul Dravid, who ended his coaching career on a high note with India's T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean on June 29, 2024. Speaking on Star Sports during the World Championship of Legends T20 tournament, Shahid Afridi said: 

"It's a new opportunity, it's good. Let's see how he makes the most of the opportunity. I have seen a lot of his interviews. He speaks good, positive things. He is very straightforward,"

Currently leading the series by 3-1, India is playing a 5 match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Under his direction, Gambhir is expected to eye complete glory and bring India the much sought-after Champions Trophy and World Test Championship.
