Former cricketer Madan Lal said that the South African cricket team is under pressure, since they are in a rebuilding process and are also trying to get the tag of 'chokers' off their back. South Africa is in India to play a three-match T20I, Test and ODI series. They will first play their first T2OI in Dharamsala on Sunday.

SA under pressure

Madan Lal pointed out the holes in the South Africa team and how are they are trying to present a different image in the cricketing world. He said, "Proteas are under pressure. They are not a very stable team. Actually, they are trying to build the team as they have not done well in the past. Also, their thought is to get the chokers tag off from the team." South Africa is commonly also referred to as the 'chokers' since they have slipped a game from winning positions multiple times. They were one of the favorites going into the recently concluded World Cup but finished seventh on the table after winning just three games and losing five games.

When asked about the predictions regarding the T20I series, he said that the format of the game doesn't allow anyone to make a hard guess and that there are multiple factors that have an effect on the game. He said, "But I will say it's T20 format, anything could be happening on the day. We will have to see how rain affects the wicket. If there is too much rain then it may have an effect."

Rohit Sharma's inclusion

Lal also touched upon the Rohit Sharma's inclusion in the Test match squad, which was announced a couple of days ago. He said that it was a good decision by Chief Selector MSK Prasad, who while announcing the squad had said that they wanted to give Sharma an opportunity to open the innings. Lal mentioned how it was vital for giving the opportunity, without which it would be impossible to know if he'll be able to perform. He said, "It's really good that selectors have given him (Sharma) an opportunity to bat on number one position in Test format. Until you will not try him how will you come to know that he can bat or not? He is a class player."
