During the second T20I between India and Australia, ICC posted a picture of Virat Kohli and Marcus Stoinis deep in conversation and asked fans to caption the image. The two players might be on the opposite sides this time out, but will soon don the Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey in the IPL this coming season.
The Indian skipper was seen sharing a hearty laugh with his soon-to-be teammate and Australian all-rounded Marcus Stoinis. This moment was captured by photographers on the pitch and soon became a viral sensation.
At the time of writing, the picture garnered around 179 Retweets 5,515 Likes and 470 replies. While Indian fans couldn't help but mention the sort of impact the rain has had on the series, leading the caption contest was former Australian spearhead Mitchell Johnson, who came up with a witty tweet, but not all fans seemed to have understood what he actually meant.
Mitchell Johson replied to the picture saying: "How did you get big muscles Marcus". However, some Indian fans thought the Aussie was poking fun at the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Although, Johson clarified that the joke was intended towards Marcus Stoinis.
It is a well-documented fact that Mitchell Johnson and Virat Kohli have had a strained relationship in the past. The duo have been involved in some heated exchanges on the field and off it too.
The most prominent one was during India's tour of Australia in 2014, when Mitchell Johnson aimed a throw at the stumps, but it ended up hitting Kohli, who was present at the strikers' end, which triggered a few verbal exchanges between the two.
Hence, in reference to their feisty past, fans began to wonder if Mitchell Johson was taking a dig at Virat Kohli. Here are some of the reactions:
