Team India-led by Rohit Sharma created history on June 29, 2024 at the Kensington Oval, Barbados. The Indian team defeated Aiden Markram's South by 7 runs in the finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and clinched their second World T20 title. This victory was also historic and record-breaking for Rohit Sharma in many ways. Courtesy of the win Rohit Sharma became the only cricketer to win the T20 World Cup both as a player and as a captain.

Rohit Sharma still traumatizes Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Marsh-led Australia were touted as one of the favourites to win the T20 World Cup, but Afghanistan and India gatecrashed their part and eliminated them from the World Cup. Seven months after winning the ODI World Cup in India, Australia were gunning for their second consecutive title but things were not meant to be in the same manner how they had planned. A shocking loss against Afghanistan dented their World Cup hopes immensely and a loss against Australia in the Super 8 stage was the final nail in the coffin.

Australia had defeated India in the finals of the ODI World Cup on November 19, 2023. Come to the T20 World Cup, a clash between both these sides was expected to produce high-octane action. But, a brilliant display from Indian captain Rohit Sharma turned it into a one way traffic. Sharma took on their spearhead Mitchell Starc and smashed him five humongous sixes in a single over. Sharma scored 92 runs off 41 balls. Starc while speaking about the same on the Willow Talk reflected on the same.

Mitchell Starc said:

I have had played a lot against him. He had a really good tournament, especially the back end. I think he targeted the wind in St. Lucia well. There was that one end where he conceded a lot more than other. And I was bowling from that very end. I had 5 balls and he hit all for sixes.
