As Team India trains up in Perth, Australia, they have been battling some injury issues and player absences before the series begins. There are a lot of rumours about India's Playing XI and whom would they pick up in the squad against the Pat Cummins-side. Amid the extensive chatter, India coach Morne Morkel has offered a huge injury update on Shubman Gill, addressing all the rumours.

At the pre-match press conference in Perth, Team India's bowling coach Morne Morkel addressed a stark notice upon the certain narratives over the Men in Blue's Playing XI against Australia during the 1st test match in Perth. He delivered an update on Shubman Gill, saying that he did well in match simulations and a call would be taken on him on the morning of the test match. They are hopeful of seeing the India batter in action.   

"Shubman is improving on a day-by-day basis. We will take a call on the morning of the Test. He played well in the match simulation during the build-up, so fingers crossed," the India bowling coach said.

Shubman Gill sustained an injury on his left hand when he was on fielding duty in the slip cordon on day two of the intra-squad match simulations. Gill's presence in the play with the bat will be essential for Team India as he has been in good form lately. In ten matches, the Indian batter has scored 806 runs in 19 innings and has had an average of 47. He also picked up three tons and the same amount of half-centuries, with his best score being 119*. He has also been comfortable at number three as he has put up good numbers from the spot. Shubman's presence will be needed for Team India as they attempt to reinforce their case for the World Test Championship Final at Lord's Cricket Ground.

Team India is all set to lock horns against Australia in the first test match, which is all set to happen in Perth at the Optus Stadium, starting November 22, 2024.
