While speaking at an event, MS Dhoni was asked about his feelings while watching the nail-biting Men's T20 World Cup Finale. MSD said he was at home and did not miss out on any moment, even though his friends believed the game was over as he felt the team was mindful of how swiftly things could change. He also said that India took full advantage of their opportunities in the final overs and that South Africa's batting was lacking depth.
"We were at home watching. Some of my friends were also watching, but once the second innings started, most of them left. I was the only one sitting there, you know, going in and out, like, 'Is it over? Come on, join us.' But I was like, 'In cricket, it’s not over until it’s actually over.' None of them believed it, even I was questioning it at some points. You know, you want the team to win, but deep down you wonder, 'What needs to happen now?' And one of the things I firmly believed was that, you know, their batting order was a little light on batters.
“And we’ve seen in cricket that when the pressure builds, anything can happen. So, there was a time when they were firmly cruising, but when the stakes are high, you know, when it’s crucial, when the games are big, you get that one chance and want to make the most of it. So, I feel they were able to do that, and that’s why we won the trophy. A big, big congratulations to the guys on the field, because that’s the kind of energy, motivation, and belief needed,” said Dhoni at an event.
