MSL 2019: Shoaib Malik replaces Chris Gayle in South African T20 event

Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik will replace Chris Gayle for Jozi Stars in the upcoming MSL 2019. The South African-based T20 tournament will start from Nov 8.

After a successful debut of Mzansi Super League in 2018, the South African-based cricket tournament is all set to return for its second edition next month. Jozi Stars, who won the inaugural edition, signs up Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik for the upcoming season. Shoaib Malik will be replacing Chris Gayle, who will make an exit from the tournament after playing six matches.

Shoaib Malik replaces Chris Gayle at Jozi Stars

Defending champions Jozi Stars will begin their campaign on November 8 against Cape Town Blitz. West Indian T20 stalwart Chris Gayle will be leaving his side after playing their sixth game at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The game is scheduled to be held on November 24. Jozi Stars will then be enjoying a one-week break before they resume their title defence with a match against Paarl Rocks on December 1. This will be their seventh game of the tournament where Shoaib Malik will finally make his debut in the South African T20 event.

According to head coach Donovan Miller, Malik’s adaptability and leadership skills will come in handy as the tournament progresses further. He pointed out that the Pakistani superstar will play an important role for his side in the upcoming edition. 37-year-old Shoaib Malik is currently the fourth-highest run-getter in the shortest format of the game. With 9018 runs across 357 T20 matches, the right-handed batsman is only behind West Indies’ Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and New Zealand’s swashbuckling batsman Brendon McCullum.
