Murder Case Filed Against Shakib Al Hasan In Bangladesh: Reports

The political unrest in Bangladesh continues to grow everyday. What started as a student's protest in June, escalated into a horror show of violence and nationwide killings. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster has made the situation even worse and the bloodshed in Bangladesh just refuses to stop. The tremors of the ongoing violence and hooliganism in the country can be felt inside the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also.

Murder Case Filed Against Shakib Al Hasan

In a recent turn of events, it is being reported that a murder case has been filed against Bangladesh's biggest cricket icon, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. The report published in the Dhaka Tribune, mentions that the case was filed by Rafiqul Islam after his son Rubel was killed on August 7. Rubel was a part of the rally that was being carried out on Ring Road in Adabor and was shot says in the chest and abdomen as mentioned in the report.

He was rushed to the hospital but couldn't survive. Shakib has been named as the 28th accused as per the case, which was filed with the Adabor police station in Dhaka. Alongside Shakib, popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed has also been named as the 58th accused. Both Shakib and Ferdous are members of Awami League in the parliament. The reports also read that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also been named along with 400-500 unidentified persons.

Bangladesh Cricket Board In Turmoil

The Bangladesh Cricket Board is currently facing the burnt of the ongoing violence in the country. Sheikh Hasina's close aide Nazmul Hassan resigned as the president of the BCB after former PM Hasina's ouster. Nazmul's 15-year-old tenure lasted for 15 odd years and later resigned after Hasina was stripped off power.

The BCB has now named ex-Bangladesh capain Faruque Ahmed as the president of the cricket board. Soon after his appointment, Ahmed said that his primary goal was to identify the shortcomings of the Bangladesh Cricket Team and address them so that they can play better and contribute towards building an identity for the country.
