‘Massive challenge’: Spin Wizard Nathan Lyon Eager to Bowl at India's 23-Year-Old Aggressive Batter
The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, would be in prime focus and joining them in the bracket would be a young lad.
Team India will travel down under at the end of the year and will vie to defend the Border Gavaskar trophy against Australia once again. India have held the bragging rights since 2014, and this time if they succeed in their objective then they will script an enormous feat. Beating Australia in Australia, in a Test series, once is a hard task, it gets almost impossible to do it twice and it would be hard to assess what the achievement would be called should India pull off a hat-trick against their longstanding rivals.
Nathan Lyon in awe of Yashasvi Jaiswal
Much like in 2018-19 and 2020-21, India would have to bank on its match-winners to do the job for them. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, would be in prime focus and joining them in the bracket would be a young lad, who has had a promising start to his Test journey.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has had a gorgeous start to his Test career, scoring an overseas century in debut series against West Indies and then amassing heaps of runs against England at the starting of 2024, will have face his biggest challenge till now in the form of the upcoming 5-match Test series between India and Australia. Jaiswal will carry the onus of providing India a good start in Australia as well, and if he flourishes in this uphill task then his stature in international cricket could get a huge elevation.
Australia's premier spinner Nathan Lyon touched on many aspects related to the upcoming series against India, and during the conversation, Lyon gave acknowledgement to Yashasvi Jaiswal for the approach he carried against England. Lyon stated that although he hasn't faced the 23-year-old Indian batter yet, he feels it would be challenging for the Australian bowlers once he will come across them.
"I haven't come across him [Jaiswal] yet, but that will be a massive challenge for all us bowlers," he said. "The way he played against England, I watched that quite closely and thought that was quite amazing. I had some really good chats with Tom Hartley about different ways he went about it to different guys which I found quite interesting."
