New Zealand made four changes to their line-up for the third ODI. Among the four, Mitchell Santer was the most concerning as he missed the match after suffering a knee injury while fielding in the second ODI. However, he is expected to be fit and available for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 after scans confirmed there was no serious damage to his knee.
New Zealand head coach Garry Stead said that there is a swelling around Santner's knee, but stressed that there is nothing serious.
"Mitch had a full scan on his knee, which he landed on when he took that catch in the last game at the Ageas Bowl," Gary Stead said. "It's come back positively, which is good for us. He's just got quite a bit of swelling around the knee still, which they think is a joint problem. It's nothing more than that."
With Santner out with knee issue and Ish Sodhi at home, Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra provided spin bowling to New Zealand in the third ODI. The duo combined finished with 1/85 in 10 overs.
New Zealand's World Cup squad
Earlier, New Zealand named Trent Boult and James Neesham in their provisional World Cup squad despite both not centrally contracted. Meanwhile, Kane Williamson, who has not played ODIs since January and has been out of action since suffering rupturing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the IPL 2023, will lead New Zealand at the 2023 World Cup.
