Gautam Gambhir Drops Official Update On Rohit Sharma's Availability For 1st Test vs Australia In BGT

Ahead of travelling to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir updated on whether Rohit Sharma will play.

Team India is all set to travel to Australia for the five match Test series, the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Ahead of departing to Australia, Gautam Gambhir addressed the media in his press conference. 

Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has revealed that there is no confirmation over whether Rohit Sharma will be available for the 1st Test vs Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. 

Rohit Sharma 's availability still uncertain 

Post Gautam Gambhir 's press conference, the second batch of Indian Cricket Team will be departing to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. There are roughly 10 days to go till the 1st Test for India against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. 

However, as head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed it is still unclear whether Rohit Sharma will be available for India in the first Test or not.  

"There is no confirmation. We'll let you know. Hopefully he’ll be available. Everything you’ll get to know by the start of the series," said Gautam Gambhir in his press conference.

Jasprit Bumrah to lead India in absence of Rohit Sharma

In case of Rohit Sharma misses the first Test vs India, Gautam Gambhir decided to silence any noise and made it clear that the team's vice captain Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side. 

“Bumrah is the vice captain of the team. If Rohit is not available, Bumrah will lead,” said Gautam Gambhir when asked about who will captain the side in Rohit Sharma's absence.

Who will replace Rohit Sharma in the Starting XI?

Another key question facing the Indian team is that if Rohit Sharma is unavailable for the 1st Test then, who will open the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. 

Gautam Gambhir revealed that the team management was looking at promoting KL Rahul as an opener or going ahead with Abhimanyu Easwaran.
