Ashish Nehra believes Rinku Singh is much more than just a finisher

Ever since the breakthrough IPL 2023 season, Rinku Singh has become a premier individual to come into the Team India fray. He was included in the side that toured Ireland earlier in the year, then he was allowed to showcase his mettle in the Asian Games and now he is in full flow in the bilateral T20 series against Australia.

Considering how well he has been batting and concluding the innings for any side he bats, Rinku Singh is hailed as the new finisher of Team India. And since his performances have beguiled many experts, the talks regarding his role in the team are prevalent. Former India bowler Ashish Nehra, who keeps a keen eye on the happenings of cricket has weighed in on Rinku Singh's emergence in the international scene and dismissed him as being limited to just being a "finisher."

“I am not a big fan of the word 'finisher'. Your opener can be a finisher, if he scores a hundred, he can finish the game and come back. At times, it can be harsh. Let me give you an example if the same Rinku Singh doesn't finish the game once or twice. Coming back to Rinku Singh, he is someone who can even play up the order, I can see him playing in 50-over cricket going forward. He can bat at No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6,” Nehra explained.

Nehra suggests Rinku to be wary of the future

As per Nehra, Rinku Singh carries the ability to resurrect the innings as well and can prosper at any position.

"On any odd day, the Indian team can be 40 for 4 in 5-6 overs. And I hope Rinku Singh is ready to play any role, I hope he doesn't want to be tagged himself as a finisher. He should be looking to excel in all departments," the former India pacer added.
