Not India; UAE Likely to Host Women's T20 World Cup 2024 - REPORT
Amid much speculation, it is now being reported that UAE is looked at as a possible option to host the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
In the wake of the unrest in Bangladesh, there have been much speculation over who will eventually host the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup which was scheduled to take place in September. A fresh report on Cricbuzz confirms that the tournament would take place in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament is set to start from September 27. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) believes they can still go about hosting it. The BCB has asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a five-day extension from the ICC to provide a concrete plan. Amid all this, there were also talks that India is being contemplated as an alternative option. But then, the Sectretary of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has categorically rubbished such claims.
Will India Host the Marquee Event?
"They [ICC] have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no," Shah told Times of India. "We're in the monsoon and on top of that we will host the Women's ODI World Cup next year. I don't want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups."
What an ICC Official Said Earlier This Week
An ICC official said earlier this week that the situation in Bangladesh was being monitored and all options had been kept open. "The ICC is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB], their security agencies and our own independent security consultants," an ICC statement said. "Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants."
Will India vs Bangladesh Bilateral Series Happen?
Team India is set to have a bilateral series against Bangladesh in the coming month. The Bangladesh men's Test team is currently on tour in Pakistan for a two-match series. They arrived in the country early after training was hampered in Bangladesh due to the protests. They're also slated to tour India next month for two Tests and three T20Is.
"We've not spoken to them (the Bangladesh authorities)," Shah said. "A new government has taken charge there. They might reach out to us or else I will reach out to them. The Bangladesh series is very important to us."
