Team India has been surrounded with a lot of questions after their recent approach against Sri Lanka was slammed after they lost to them in the 2nd ODI match. The new beginning under coach Gautam Gambhir has been under scrutiny despite winning the T20I series with a clean sweep. As India currently rails in the ODIs, they have some bigger targets down the road. Amid the uproar, former India cricketer and Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra has opened up over India head coach Gautam Gambhir's approach in the Sri Lanka series.

Ashish Nehra Offers His Take on India Coach Gautam Gambhir’s Strategy in SL Odis

Former Indian bowler Ashish Nehra shared his opinions on the new coach's strategy. He suggested that Gautam Gambhir, who was recently hired as head coach, might have tried out a few fresh faces during the ODI portion of India's trip to Sri Lanka as they feature in the ODIs at Colombo.

"The next series India plays is two-three months later, a rare thing for us. So for players like Rohit and Kohli... I feel there was a better chance of giving opportunities to other players during this series. I know Gambhir is a new coach, and he wants to spend some time with the experienced players, but it isn't like he does not know the two of them.

"He is not a foreign coach who wants to get his equation right with Kohli and Rohit. So it was a good opportunity for him to try out the new players, and Rohit and Kohli could play when the home season begins. I am not saying it is a wrong approach, but it could have been one of the strategies in this series," Ashish Nehra said on Sony Sports Network after the match.

Gautam Gambhir seemingly made a surprising decision to snub top guns like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh, who have competed nicely in the past. For the ODIs, players like Harshit Rana, Riyan Parag and Rishabh Pant were chosen, but they are yet to feature in a match-up.

Team India has a chance to level the series tomorrow. After the first match ended in a tie and Sri Lanka won the second one, the Men in Blue will look to seal the final match of the series with a win.
