'Please show this clip': Gautam Gambhir reminisces about his controversial past with Virat Kohli

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir's response to a query about Virat Kohli's 50th ODI century went viral on social media, and for good reason. The two stalwarts of Indian cricket were embroiled in a heated argument during an IPL 2023 match between RCB and LSG. However, irrespective of what had transpired on the field, both carry a sense of respect towards each other.

Gautam Gambhir clears the air regarding his equation with Virat Kohli

During the recent India vs South Africa 3rd ODI analysis segment, Gautam Gambhir once again said something which had a direct relation with Virat Kohli. Addressing the controversial past with Kohli, Gambhir stated that his fight with the India batter was only on the ground, and seemingly hinted that, there is all-respect outside of it.

"Against which bowler did Virat Kohli score his 50th ODI hundred?" In a viral clip, Gambhir was asked on Star Sports. Gambhir vehemently answered that Kohli's 50th hundred came off New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson's delivery. Hearing the answer fellow expert, Piyush Chawla was also left impressed with the reply. Gambhir was visibly pleased with his recollection of thought and went on to admit that his fight with Virat Kohli was limited to just the field.
"Please show this clip again and again. I remember everything. My fight is only on the field," Gambhir said.

Gautam Gambhir had once presented his POTM award to Virat Kohli

Notably, Kohli scored his 50th ODI century, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's long-held record for the most hundreds in the game. Kohli accomplished this accomplishment during the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. After passing Tendulkar, Kohli added another feather to his already impressive collection of records and accomplishments.

Kohli and Gambhir both played for the Indian cricket team and the Delhi Ranji team. Many critical partnerships were formed between the two, including one against Sri Lanka in the 2011 final. Kohli's first ODI century also came when Gambhir was at the other end. In the same match, Gambhir also got to his hundred and was adjudged the man of the match. Following the match, in the presentation ceremony, Gambhir presented his Player of the Match award to Kohli in a much-appreciated gesture.
