Prithvi Shaw will have to face an extended period on the sidelines as the Indian opener's knee injury is expected to take a longer period than expected. The Delhi Capitals batsman got injured during a One Day Cup fixture against Durham during his latest stint with Northamptonshire. Shaw looked in brilliant touch as the player recorded two hundred in four innings for the County outfit.

Prithvi Shaw is expected to be on the sidelines for a lengthy period

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, the player has been in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is under the strict watch of a medical team. However, he is likely to go under the knife as surgery seems to be the only way out. Initially, he was expected to be out for a few weeks but after only a detailed examination the extent of the injury has come out.

As quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, a Mumbai Cricket Association official admitted that they don't want to rush the situation and will try to make him ready for the upcoming Rajni Trophy campaign which starts in January. This means Shaw won't be available for the Irani Cup followed by the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali campaign which is scheduled to start next month.

Shaw had scored runs at an astonishing average of 143 having amassed 429 runs in just four innings for Northamptonshire. His 153 ball 244 against Somerset was the highlight of his brief stint in the United Kingdom.

Prithvi Shaw vows to come back strongly 

Shaw insisted he enjoyed his stay at the county club and will look forward to when he returns next summer.

"I'm so excited to be heading back to Northamptonshire next summer.

"Even though it was over quickly, I really enjoyed my time there. It's a great club to be a part of and I was welcomed by everyone immediately. I can't wait to get back. My goal is always to help win games for the team and it was so disappointing to get injured and have to leave early this time."

Shaw has had a turbulent career so far having not fulfilled his potential so far.
