On Saturday, Delhi Capitals parted ways with Ricky Ponting after seven IPL seasons. The franchise expressed gratitude towards the former Aussie captain for the services he rendered as head coach of the team. Delhi Capitals would now look to bring a new coach on board. Sourav Ganguly, who is already carrying out duties as Director of Cricket for the franchise comes out as one option. Ganguly also worked with Ponting intermittently during the last seven seasons and has reviewed his performance, not labelling it as successful.

Sourav Ganguly reviews Ricky Ponting's coaching stint with Delhi Capitals

During Ricky Ponting's tenure as head coach, DC reached the playoffs stage thrice and subsequently reached the final once. Despite guiding Delhi to its best phase since inception, Ponting's stint is being adjudged as a failure by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. During a media address, Ganguly did not shy away from reviewing Ponting as the coach of DC and seconded Geoffrey Boycott, who stated that "Ponting has not taken DC forward in these seven years." Ganguly also put out that he would suggest the franchise appoint an Indian at the helm.

"Let me give you some news. Ricky Ponting won't be the DC coach anymore. Geoffrey Boycott is absolutely right! Ponting has not taken DC forward in these seven years. You need to talk to the management. I would suggest looking at Indian options for the coach," Ganguly said.

Ganguly not in the reckoning to coach Delhi Capitals

Even though Sourav Ganguly has made it clear that he is open to the coaching role, Delhi Capitals are reportedly not willing to zero in on the name of Sourav Ganguly. Speculations are rife that the franchise does not want to fill Ganguly's table too much since he is already the Director of Cricket at the franchise.
