BCCI President Sourav Ganguly wished India's stand-in captain Rohit Sharma on his 100th T20I match and called him an asset to Indian cricket. The former Indian captain tweeted his admiration for Sharma on Thursday. Sharma became the second Indian to play in 100 T20 internationals when India took on Bangladesh in Rajkot. Indian Women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is the only other Indian to have achieved this feat.
Sharma told a leading media portal on Wednesday that he had never imagined that he would play so many T20I games. He claimed he was grateful for all the opportunities that came along his way and described his cricketing journey since his debut as a learning experience. Sharma said that after going through several ups and downs, he has finally understood his game and is happy with where he is right now.
Rohit Sharma's Achievements
Sharma, who is called the 'Hitman', has scored four centuries in the shortest form of the game. But the batsman did not want to rate any one of his knocks as his favourite. He said that any knock that resulted in the team winning made him happy. He added that he wanted to continue playing good cricket for a long time. Sharma has scored 2452 T20Is with four centuries and 17 half-centuries.
On Sunday, during the first match against Bangladesh, Sharma became the highest run-scorer in T20 internationals. Sharma overtook Virat Kohli, who has 2450 runs in T20Is to claim the top spot. The two have been swapping places between each other for some time. During the first T20 game with Bangladesh, Sharma was 8 runs behind the regular Indian skipper and closed the gap in the very first over of the match.
India is also set to play its first day/night test match against Bangladesh on November 22 at Eden Gardens. Ganguly said that he expected the stadium to be at capacity. The online tickets for the first three days of the game are sold out, according to a claim made by sources at the Cricket Association of Bengal on Thursday as per a report in a leading Indian media daily.
