Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes that Rohit Sharma, who has been in a red-hot form in his first Test series as an opening batsman, is taking revenge on himself for not doing good with red-ball in the last few years.

With Rohit being inconsistent with his performances in the Test cricket, he wasn’t a regular feature of the Indian playing 11. However, his incredible performance as an opening batsman in the ODI format forced the selection committee to put him in the Test squad against South Africa. Rohit has already scored three centuries in the recently-concluded Test series against South Africa, including a double hundred in the four innings he played. He has scored a total of 529 runs in this series.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Akhtar stated that now after his incredible performance, people will admit that Rohit was and is a great batsman. He said that Rohit has collected runs in limited-overs cricket and missed out on the bigger action – Test Cricket. Akhtar believes that Rohit now realises his capabilities and he is batting in the ODI style. Also, he added that Rohit is hitting big sixes and scoring freely as if he is now taking revenge on himself.

Akhtar claimed that if Rohit had played Test cricket in the last five years, he would have easily scored 8000-9000 runs by now. He said that Rohit seems to be making up for the time he has lost by not playing the red-ball cricket all this while. He signed off saying that if Rohit continues to play in the Tests, he can easily break Steve Smith’s record and score a thousand runs in a Test series.
