'My Work Wife': Rohit Sharma Pens Heartfelt Goodbye To Rahul Dravid
As Rahul Dravid's tenure as Team India's head coach ends, Rohit Sharma has penned an emotional and heartfelt goodbye for his coach.
Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will forever go down in history of Indian Cricket as the captain and coach duo to end India's 13 year wait for a World Cup trophy when they led the Men in Blue to T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in an epic finals victory over South Africa at Barbados.
The T20 World Cup was the final assignment of Rohit Sharma as a captain in T20 internationals as he announced his retirement from the format. It was also Rahul Dravid's last assignment as the coach of Indian Cricket Team and his tenure came to an end in the most fitting way possible as the Wall finally got his hands on a World Cup trophy, something he failed to do as a player.
As Rahul Dravid's tenure as the coach of Indian Cricket Team came to an end, Rohit Sharma penned an emotional and heartfelt goodbye to the outgoing coach.
Rohit Sharma's Heartfelt Goodbye To Rahul Dravid
Rohit Sharma took to Instagram to share his feelings over how he felt about Rahul Dravid's departure. In an emotional post, Rohit Sharma bid adieu to his ‘coach, confidant and friend'.
“Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I’m not sure I ever will so here’s my attempt. Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely," wrote Rohit Sharma.
In his message Rohit Sharma lauded Rahul Dravid for helping everyone in the team feel comfortable and praised him for walking into the coaching role with a fresh mind and not with the baggage of his achievements in the sport.
“You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. ,” said Rohit Sharma.
The Hitman further went on to joke that their relationship as a coach and captain grew so strong that Rohit Sharma's wife started referring to Rahul Dravid as his work wife.
“I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too,” added Rohit.
Rahul Dravid failed to win a World Cup as a coach but his dream was realised as a coach when India won the T20 World Cup in Barbados. Rohit Sharma could not be more happy that they got to achieve this peak together.
“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend,” concluded Rohit.
Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid endured a great time together as captain and coach duo. In their four ICC tournaments together, Rohit and Dravid took India to semi finals of T20 World Cup 2022, World Test Championship 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 finals before finally winning an ICC trophy with India in the T20 World Cup 2024.
