Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are two of the biggest legends of the generation. Everybody wants to see them play and when they do not feature in some tournament or match, it upsets the fans. With Rohit and Kohli set to miss the Duleep Trophy, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has questioned the selectors and their policy of giving them rest. Gavaskar reckons the two cricketers would have done themselves good if they featured in the domestic tournament ahead of the Bangladesh series.

Here is What Gavaskar Said…

“The selectors have not picked the skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the Duleep Trophy so they will most likely go into the Bangladesh Test series without much match practice,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for the mid-day.

“While it’s understandable that somebody like Jasprit Bumrah with his delicate back needs to be handled with care, the batters could have done with some batting time out in the middle. Once a player hits the mid-thirties in any sport, then regular competition will help him maintain the high standards he has set. When there’s a longish gap then the muscle memory weakens somewhat and to get back to the high standards from earlier is not easy,” he added.

Earlier, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had addressed their absence. Shah had told that Rohit and Kohli would not play the Duleep Trophy due to workload management.

When Did The Duo Last Play a Test For India?

Rohit last played a Test match in March, while Kohli played one back in January. They would both be in action in the Test series against Bangladesh in September. Spotlight would be on them as they would be making a return in whites after a long time. They would like to get among the runs and feel good as there are bigger matches that follow.
