Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the best batsman in world cricket as he holds numerous records in the gentleman's game. He started his cricketing career at a tender age of 16 back in 1989 when India had toured Pakistan. At such a young age, Sachin had to face the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and others who had comprised of a fierce bowling unit back then. To date, the Master Blaster holds the most number of centuries in both Tests and One Day Internationals and at the same time, he remains the top-run getter in both the formats as well. However, on this day in 2008, he had made a new world record.

Sachin becomes the highest run-scorer in Tests

Exactly 11 years ago i.e. on October 17, 2008, Sachin Tendulkar achieved a new feat in Test cricket. He surpassed another cricketing legend and one of his best friends, Brian Charles Lara to become the leading run-scorer in the longest format of the game. Till then, 'The Prince of Trinidad' was leading the Test charts with 11,953 runs i.e. just 47 runs short of 12,000 runs. Lara had announced his retirement from the game the previous year while the Little Master was looking to prolong his international career. Finally, Tendulkar managed to break the shackles during the second Test match at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali to become the highest run-scorer in the history if red-ball cricket. India went on to win the Test match by a comprehensive margin of 320 runs and also the four-match series 2-0. Legendary Indian cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble also hung up their boots from international cricket during that series. Tendulkar, on the other hand, went on to score 15921 in the game's longest format.

Sachin Tendulkar's humanitarian call

The Master Blaster revealed that he was really excited to be back on the field and playing with his opening partner and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag. Talking about the significance of road safety, Sachin Tendulkar gave an example from his childhood to incite the necessity to follow rules. Sachin Tendulkar asked the people to fill their 'piggy banks' with blessings by following the rules just like how children saved money. Citing another example, Sachin Tendulkar said that elderly people should be helped if they were unable to cross the road on their own and asked the drivers and riders to stop their vehicles in order to let the senior citizens cross. Sachin Tendulkar pointed out that over 200,000 people die every year due to road accidents and that one person died every four minutes because of the same issue. 

"We are lacking patience. Everyone wants everything to happen right away. From my experience, you can have either right or now but it is impossible to have it right now. Patience is one thing we are all lacking", said Sachin Tendulkar
