Shakib al Hasan ban: 4 all-rounders who can replace Shakib in IPL 2020

Bangladesh cricket team suffered a huge loss ahead of their visit to India when their skipper Shakib al Hasan was handed a two-year ban, with one of them suspended, by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday. The 32-year-old had accepted that he did not report corrupt approaches by a bookie to the apex body.

With Shakib no longer available, Indian Premier League (IPL) side Sunrisers Hyderabad will now have to plunge into the auction pool and look out for a player who can replace the Bangladeshi.

We look at 4 players who are capable of replacing the all-rounder -

Jason Holder (West Indies)

Former West Indies skipper led Barbados Tridents to the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League title and can be a perfect replacement for the Bangladeshi all-rounder. Holder has previously played for SRH as well.

Holder can contribute across departments making him an ideal team player. The 27-year old cricketer has also played for  Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in the past.

In this year's CPL, Holder picked up 14 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 25.71 and an economy rate of 7.34, finishing third in the wicket-takers list.

Roelof van der Merwe (Netherlands)

The former South African all-rounder, who now plays for the Netherlands, is a like-for-like replacement for Shakib. Having played for Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL from 2009-2013, van der Merwe has had a decent experience of the tournament.

In 21 IPL matches, van der Merwe has pocketed 21 wickets at an average of 23.71, an economy rate of 6.74 and a strike rate of 21.09.

With Rashid Khan attacking from one end, van der Merwe can hold the run flow from the other end.

Andile Phehlukwayo (South Africa)

The South African is a handy all-rounder in the limited-overs formats. The 23-year-old has stepped up and played crucial innings for the Proteas when the team needs him the most.

In 23 T20I games for South Africa, Phehlukwayo has 29 wickets at an economy of 7.87.

Parvez Rasool (India)

The Jammu and Kashmir star has played for SRH previously in IPL. The experienced all-rounder can slow down the run flow and can contribute with the bat as well. The advantage of having the 30-year old in the side is that SRH will be eligible to play an additional overseas player.

In 51 T20s, Rasool has picked 41 wickets at an average of 30.53, an economy rate of 6.80 and a strike rate of 26.9.
