South Africa Shake Up Current WTC Standings with Historic 1st Test Win in Asia since 2014, Beats BAN

The South African men's side is on the top of the world after they defeated Bangladesh in the 1st Test match at Mirpur. After returning to an embarrassing series loss to India, the home defeat at the hands of South Africa will add to their woes. The historic win puts Proteas back on the map for the World Test Championship Final as they drastically shake up the standings with the win at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The win was huge for the Proteas, and their jump in the WTC Charts was also significant.

South Africa Stuns Bangladesh With Epic Test Victory In Mirpur, Alters WTC Standings
South Africa defeated Bangladesh in the first match-up of the two-match series. Fans at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur saw the hosts struggle against the Proteas, who came in with the intent of winning it all and making a mark. After the World Cup setbacks, SA is eager to brush them aside and return to the winning bandwagon. The bowling attack nailed the Bangladeshi batting side in spin-friendly conditions. With the win at the first test match, the World Test Championship Standings have undergone a major shake-up.
The Proteas have risen to the number four spot in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 standings after the solid win against Bangladesh . The win was also their first in nearly 14 years on Asian soil. SA have increased their point percentage to 47.62 and have gone past England and New Zealand. The Blackcaps are currently engaged in a series against India and have a 1-0 lead.

On the other hand, Bangladesh 's point percentage fell to 30.56, and they remain stuck in seventh place. As of now, Australia and India continue to hold the top two positions in the standings.
The second Test match between South Africa and Bangladesh will take place on October 29, 2024, at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The hosts will aim for a draw, while the Proteas would look to continue their momentum pick up a famous series win.
