Former BCCI president N Srinivasan's daughter Rupa Gurunath, who is also the wife of tainted Gurunath Maiyappan has been elected unopposed as the President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) for a term of three years. It was a foregone conclusion given the clout Srinivasan holds not only on the TNCA but also on the overall cricket in the South as his daughter was elected in Chennai today at the TNCA's 87th annual general meeting (election) without any opposition candidates in the fray.

Supreme Court had allowed elections to happen

This comes in the wake of Supreme Court allowing the elections to happen on condition that the results will be subject to a final decision on the body's compliance with Lodha reforms, the order of the Supreme Court and legal remedies available to parties involved. COA had put a hold on the election of TNCA because of their non-compliance with new BCCI Constitution and Lodha Committee recommendations.

It is to be pointed out that Rupa's father Srinivasan has been barred by the Supreme Court from contesting either BCCI as well TNCA elections while Rupa's husband Gurunath Meiyappan is serving a life ban for his role in spot-fixing and betting in the 2013 Indian Premier League. TNCA is back in the news for the involvement of unnamed players, officials and coaches in its franchise-based Tamil Nadu Premier League were accused of being involved in match-fixing.
