Rinku Singh’s mindblowing over vs Sri Lanka makes STOIC Gautam Gambhir smile
Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the Indian team, was really pleased when Rinku Singh emerged as the decisive factor in India's triumph against Sri Lanka in the third T20I match at Pallekele on July 30th, Tuesday. Rinku was assigned the responsibility of protecting a score of nine runs in the last two overs. He successfully accomplished this by dismissing two important batsmen in the 19th over, as Sri Lanka was attempting to reach a total of 138 runs. At that point, India had already achieved victory in the series.
Gambhir was the centre of attention when cameras were directed towards him during the second-to-last over, when Rinku, in a daring decision made by the Indian team, assumed the role of the bowler. Rinku bowled a slow off-spin delivery to Kusal Perera, who was batting on 46 and in a position to seal a victory for Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, Rinku altered the outcome of the game with his initial delivery, directed directly at Perera, and proceeded with a second ball that caused Perera to hit the ball high into the air. Rinku autonomously completed the catch, while the camera recorded Gambhir's wide grin at that same instant.
Rinku subsequently dismissed Ramesh Mendis, concluding the over on a positive and impressive one.
India remain unfazed during the Super Over against Sri Lanka to white wash the series
Following Rinku Singh's remarkable performance in the previous over, skipper Suryakumar Yadav assumed control of the last over and successfully took two wickets, so placing Sri Lanka in a vulnerable situation. Nevertheless, the hosts successfully extended the game into a Super Over, intensifying the thrill.
In the Super Over, Sri Lanka took the first turn to bat, while India assigned Washington Sundar the responsibility of bowling. The off-spinner exhibited exceptional performance, allowing a just two runs and securing two wickets, so placing India in a position of imminent triumph.
Suryakumar secured the victory and clinched the series for India after hitting a boundary on the opening ball. Now, attention turns to the One Day International (ODI) series between India and Sri Lanka, with the inaugural match set to take place on August 2.
