Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar used Ravichandran Ashwin 's heroic knock from the India vs Bangladesh first Test, happened in Chennai, to throw shade at the English media. The matter dates back to 2021 when England toured India and endured a battering in the second Test in Chennai and the rest of the series after winning the first Test. Following the culmination of England's misery, the English media put the "you can't bat here" tag about Indian pitches. Three years later Gavaskar has a befitting reply to the naysayers and has Ashwin to thank.

Ravichandran Ashwin put on an incredible partnership with Ravindra Jadeja on Day 1 of the India vs Bangladesh Test. Team India was reeling at 144/6 and the need of the hour was a solid partnership. The two all-rounders rose to the occasion and lifted the side out of the troubled zone. They took the score to 376, with Ravichandran Ashwin scoring a spectacular knock of 113 runs. Ashwin and Jadeja's stand laid the foundation of India's eventual 28-run victory over the Bangla Tigers.

Having taken the 1-0 lead in the 2-match series, the second Test started on Friday, September 27, 2024. As it was a rain-hit day, the play was hampered and hence one of the talking points was India's first Test win and Ashwin's exceptional hundred. Witnessing the highlights of his innings, Sunil Gavaskar, who is rendering commentary duties in the series, dismissed what was said in the past about the surface and had Ashwin's knock to support his answer.

"He (R Ashwin) actually said in the press conference that you can get a hundred if you apply yourself. So he walked the talk when the moaners were going on saying 'you can't bat here'. Saying and doing all the things like crybabies, typical English media stuff, where they only talk about Indian pitches."
