Suryakumar Yadav ruled out from IND-AFG T20I series following Grade II ankle tear - Reports
Multiple reports have shared an update on Suryakumar Yadav's ankle injury, which will need at least six-weeks to heal and he will miss out on the series vs AFG
The Indian Cricket Team, led by Suryakumar Yadav in the T20Is against South Africa, showcased a pleasing display in an overseason location. As a skipper, Surya did a commendable job leading a youthful squad against a formidable opponent. While the first match did not happen due to rain, and the hosts won the second match, Team India bounced back in the third match to draw the series to 1-1. Unfortunately, Surya was injured while fielding and will miss the Afghanistan series.

Suryakumar Yadav to miss out on IND-AFG T20I series
After Suryakumar Yadav twisted his ankle while fielding against South Africa in Johannesburg, he underwent some scans and the injury was determined to be a Grade II ankle tear. The injury could take six weeks to heal, which will imply that he will miss out on the India vs Afghanistan T20I series.
"Surya has reported to NCA for rehab work, and the Medical Science team as of now has ruled him injured. He won't be able to play against Afghanistan, which starts in three weeks' time. Since he is unlikely to be selected for Tests, he will possibly play for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy in February to check his fitness before playing in the IPL," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

With Suryakumar out, will Hardik lead the T20I squad?
Given that Suryakuamr's injury will take nearly six weeks to heal, he will not be a part of the IND vs AFG T20I series. The BCCI could approach Hardik Pandya to lead the squad, but sources added that Hardik is also questionable.
"There is no update on Hardik's fitness status as of now, and one can say there remains a big question mark of him being available before the end of IPL," the source said
With neither Surya nor Hardik available, the selection committee may have to ask Rohit Sharma to captain the squad, except they wish to look ahead and elect Ravindra Jadeja.
