Shai Hope remembers speaking with MS Dhoni following his historic century

West Indies was in a tough spot when they were 220 for 5 at the end of the 40th over, still attempting to make 326 runs. Particularly after losing Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford so quickly, the visiting team, under the leadership of Jos Buttler, appeared to be winning. The West Indies needed 106 runs in the last 10 overs, which was not easy.

Still, things turned around when captain Shai Hope and new player Romario Shepherd for the Mumbai Indians played great in the last few overs, leading the West Indies to a successful chase with seven balls to spare.

Captain Shai Hope did an amazing job, hitting 109 runs without being out in just 83 balls, with 7 sixes and 4 boundaries. Romario Shepherd was very important. In his 29-ball 48, he hit 3 sixes and 4 fours, helping to build an 89-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

The West Indies needed 19 runs in the last two overs. Shai Hope stepped up and hit Sam Curran for three sixes in the next-to-last over, leading the team to victory. When Shai Hope thought about the game, he remembered some good advice from former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni said it was important to remember that there is often more time than you think, especially in the longer version of the white-ball game. He quoted:

"I had a chat with MS Dhoni some time back and he told me that you always have a lot more time at the crease than you think and that stuck with me,"

"The century was in a winning cause and that's all I play for. Happy that we won,"
